How do I pay for my sponsorship?
Sponsorships may be paid either online by clicking here or by mail. Setting up an automatic bill pay with your bank may be possible but would vary by institution. If paying by mail, please make checks out to Project 61, include a note with your sponsored child’s first and last name, and send it to the following address:
Project 61 Ministries
P.O. Box 126
Thompson’s Station, TN 37179
How can I communicate with my child?
We encourage each sponsor to communicate and engage with their child. Letters may be sent at any time to:
Project 61 Ministries
ATTN: (FIRST AND LAST NAME OF CHILD: BOARDING SCHOOL)
P.O. Box 126
Thompson's Station, TN 37179
Letters will be taken to Ethiopia with mission teams, leaving monthly. They may contain a letter, photo(s) of your family, stickers, or other flat items. Each sponsor can expect to receive at least one letter from their sponsored child during the school year. Dictation and/or translation from the students is time-consuming, and we ask for your patience as these are generated throughout the year. Letters from the kids will be brought back with mission teams and mailed directly to sponsors.
In their letters, your sponsored child may ask that you send items such as iPods, cell phones, new shoes, or new clothes. Please know that Project 61 supplies the sponsored children with necessary items, including clothing, shoes, school supplies, and hygiene items, all at the same time. We do not encourage giving your children electronics. See below for appropriate items to send your child.
Can I send my sponsored child a gift?
We plan to have at least one opportunity during the year for sponsors to send their child a small gift. This opportunity will be communicated to sponsors via email. For the safety of the students, we request that all letters / packages not contain significant gifts or other items. Expensive gifts create controversy and struggles for the children due to jealousy. Appropriate gifts to send include pens, pencils, gum, candy, chapstick, lotion, bandanas, scarves, photos, stickers, and small journals. Please do notsend jewelry, fingernail polish, electronics (iPods, cell phones, etc.), or other expensive items, even if your child requests these items.
Can I visit my child?
Getting to meet your child is an amazing experience, and one that we highly encourage. Serving on a mission team is the best way to spend time with your child. For a complete list of Project 61 trips, click here. If you are visiting independently and would like to meet your child, please contact Alicia at Alicia@p61.org. Our team in Africa has a very full schedule and will be accepting independent visitors only on designated days. If you would like to take your child a gift when you visit, we encourage you to give items mentioned above, or clothing.
Are my donations to Project 61 tax deductible?
Yes. Project 61 operates as a non-profit organization, and all donations are tax-deductible. The organization is guided by a six-member board and is observed by the ministry board of Thompson Station Church. Tax statements will be sent by Thompson Station Church.
What are other ways I can support Project 61?
Project 61 is a volunteer-based organization. We are blessed to have many partners and volunteers assist in the cause. You can design a brochure, create a t-shirt design or assist with our site. Please consider partnering with P61 in your gifted area.
Additionally, Project 61 would not exist without its many supporters and contributors. Throughout the year, we will be fund-raising for needs such as medical expenses, clothing, transportation, and general ministry. Donations are accepted in any amount. Checks may be made out to Project 61 and mailed to the following address:
Project 61 Ministries
P.O. Box 126
Thompson’s Station, TN 37179
You may also make an online donation by clicking here. If you are interested in hosting a fund-raiser or organized event to support the work of Project 61, please contact Shawn at shawn@p61.org.
